Not hearing anything of Genl. Howards movements, I waited until 12 o'clock when being short of provision and more than half of my command dismounted / came to the conclusion (after consulting with my Officers) that it was better for me to move towards Mt. Idaho and procure provisions, and horses to remount my men I reached Cearly's Ranche about 7 o'clock Pm. having marched forty three of my men on foot twenty five (25) miles.
