Dr. Edward Victor Spackman was an accomplished amateur photographer and active member of the Lethbridge Camera Club.
Following his death in 1972, quite by accident, I was at a local auction when his portfolio was put up for sale. A bid was made and for over a quarter century his work has sat in storage. It is now offered for sale as a way of helping finance this website.
Some of the offerings are mounted and were exhibited in Canada and United States. Others are large prints that he deemed worthy of keeping. All are being offered for $30 each (CAD) including postage and taxes. (Currency Converter) They are being sold "as is." You are welcome to email me for a more detailed description of any item.
Dr. Spackman was born in Peterson, Morgan County, Utah in 1894 and moved with his family to Stirling, Alberta in 1900. He graduated from the Minnisota School of Medicine in 1927 and after interning started his medical practice in Lethbridge in 1929.
Besides showing his artistic talent, this series of pictures shows the locations a man of his status would have wanted to visit during the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Some of his work was just "fun stuff" while in some sequences one can almost visualize what he was thinking. Check out pictures 47, 48 & 49. Notice in picture 47 there is a lower left branch from the large tree that is missing in picture 48. ("Gotta see those rocks better") In the third picture the smaller tree to the right of the large one has been decimated. A prairie boy he was obviously impressed and wanted to see more of the rocky seascape.
