|Sight & Sound Bytes
I vividly remember the day in the 1940s I saw for the first time a machine that could collect sounds a rare wire recorder. During the seond world war Germans perfected a better recorder that used tape and when tape recorders began to appear in stores in the 1950s I was eager to have one. Over the next few decades a sound collection grew to over 5000 hours.
Some of my favorite sound snippets include a short interview with someone who remembers seeing the first airplane flight in southern Alberta and an interview with the Captain Hoy who made the first flight across the Canadian Rockies.
